Dr. Brett Nichols of Hiram College works with Positive Coaching Alliance

by Taylor Cook

Hiram, OH (08/27/2025) — In his work as a trainer with Positive Coaching Alliance this past week (8/18-8/21), Dr. Brett Nichols trained over 450 coaches in Chicago Public Schools (CPS). Together with his outstanding colleague Jodie McGarity Jr., Dr. Nichols facilitated 4 professional development webinars to help coaches in CPS learn how to create a positive environment for their athletes and support the development of positive athlete behaviors. The two different webinars were titled "Supporting Positive Athletes Behavior Through Responsive Coaching" and "Developing Competitors and Mental Wellness through Positive Coaching". The webinars provided a tremendous opportunity for coaches in the CPS district to learn more about effective coaching practices, explore different tools and strategies to continue to support their athletes, and to take time to reflect on their own coaching behaviors and methods. The gratitude and response from CPS coaches was overwhelmingly positive. It was clear that there are a lot of coaches in Chicago who are committed to making a difference in the lives of their athletes. As lead trainer for these webinars, "I loved all of the dialogue with the coaches and was excited to contribute to making a positive difference for thousands of high school athletes all across Chicago!"
